Family holidays in KZN

The holiday season is a time to share with those you love the most. Though nowadays people are often tempted to plough away at their own activities, isolating themselves with technology and other distractions, bonding time is something important. One way families can ensure that bonds remain strong is to take trips together. The sound of it may come across as expensive but with Optima Holidays you don't have to empty your wallet organizing a trip for the family. Family holidays in KZN are rather affordable and include accommodation that not only provides you with a safe and comfortable holiday abode, but also a place where you can enjoy yourself with more activities than you can wish for.

One of the province's most notable attractions comes in the form of enormous basaltic rock formations known as the Drakensberg. These majestic hilltops serve as the edge of the escarpment upon which the Highveld sits and as a location for several resort spas that cater specifically to guests that are looking for a relaxing holiday experience. Bushman's Nek Hotel & Spa, Champagne Lane and Castleburn resorts are just some of the places you could consider for this sort of vacation.

Castleburn consists of self-catering units that have laundry facilities and TVs with selected DSTV channels.  Fire places are also available indoors for those cool nights. While during the day you can spend your time canoeing, hiking, horse-riding, putt-putt, tennis table tennis, swimming and pool. Bushman's Nek offers much of the same facilities with the added bonus of having wellness spa onsite where you can have your back rubbed by a trained masseuse, have your hair and nails done, or sit in the sauna for some soothing steam therapy. In nearby proximity to Champagne Lane Resort you can fish and golf or even boat given that there is a marine slipway just 10km from the resort.

KZN is a province that provides its visitors with plenty to see. Natural landscapes consist of lush green hilly terrain with lakes, rivers, rocky outcrops and cliffs. This is probably why hiking is listed as an activity at most resorts and also why KZN has more than one national park to call its own. The Umkahlamba Drakensberg Park is a world heritage site as is the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park. The Royal National Park is known for its Amphitheatre, a rock wall that extends over a distance of 5km. The national parks are not all that KZN has to offer. Game-viewing is made possible at the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve in which you are given the privilege of seeing each member of the 'Big-5' (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, rhino). Hluhluwe also happens to be the oldest game reserve on the whole continent.

A fantastic way to see the lands without wearing yourself out is on a special 4x4 trail that could lead you right through from the Drakensberg to Maputaland. The mode of transportation heightens the excitement levels of course, as the vehicle crosses difficult terrain making it an even more thrilling ride.

When you and the family have seen what you have to of the wildlife and terrain in KZN, South and North Coast beaches await you with promises of enjoyment and relaxation caused by all the sunbathing, grazing, jet-skiing, power-boating, snorkelling, building sandcastles and swimming you will be doing on the sand and surf.

Optima Holidays offers you a long list of accommodations to choose from when planning family holidays in KZN. With prices being as reasonable as they are, it really just comes down to where the family would like to be for the holidays.
